I had been aware of the ADL turn since the Greenblatt ascendency... but I had no idea of the origins... thanks for enlightening us...

Very interesting- talking about appearances vs. values. So, what organization(s) really have Jewish values and Jewish open, nonconformist survival in mind?

If Jewish religious organizations represent (their brand of) religious Jews, who represents Jewish people in their totality, including secular Jews?

And is antisemitism the only issue that needs to be addressed?

What about Jews who become lost either to Judaism or Jewishness and embrace resentment of Judaism, Jewishness, and Jewish people? When did they become these lost cases and why? Too many questions I guess.

The ADL has a long and sorry history of not being supportive of traditional Jewish values and in opposing aid to yeshivos for secular studies in court cases for far too many years and in lecturing Israel in how to defend itself

Great piece as usual. Original sin rides again. The Jews never seem to learn. Depressing. But if Israel asserts sovereignty over Gaza, Judea and Samaria an end will be put to all this Jewish flirting with the Gentiles ever since Egypt.

This is very insightful and actually fits my own observations. It appears Never Again only applies to progressive Jews when Never Again is restricted to progressive Jews in relative safety living amongst tolerant gentile populations. Jews in harms way in the rest of the world should not presume to do anything that might make progressive Jews in North America uncomfortable even if it means their lives are in danger. I can't help but wonder how Jehovah will judge them progressive Jews when all is aid and done.

Thanks for this excellent piece of history. Further proof that confronting the threats that come from freedom of speech is most successful by applying freedom of speech.

As the article lays out, the ADL was not founded over the Leo Frank case. That's why the name has Defamation in it. Not lynching.
